BRYCE AND GOATS
A Love For This Cute Species
THE START OF BRYCE'S GOAT ARMY
Bryce found a love for this cute little animal in spring of 2022, when his cousin brought goats to a 4-H meeting. Bryce leased a few goats to show at the county fair (just so we would know if he was really serious about wanting goats). Well, he was!
I picked out two little Nigerian Dwarf doelings (because that is the breed Bryce really really really wanted), signed the purchase agreement, and sent the down payment a few weeks before we lost our sweet son. We planned to surprise Bryce with the little cuties for his birthday on April 15. Immediately after Bryce’s passing I contacted the seller to cancel the purchase agreement (It was just not something we were ready for yet). I had already bought grain, mineral, hoof trimmers, and everything back in early March and planned to donate it all at the County fair after canceling, but I just couldn’t part with it. After watching the goat show at the county fair, my older son, Connor, said, “Get Bryce’s goats. I will show them for him next year”. I checked the Cabochon Farm website and, hot dang, there those two little beauties were- still available, just waiting to come home with us!
I could picture Bryce smiling down on us as we drove those girls home in July. He was smiling down happily because we are now officially goat people, but he had an extra big grin because those goats were loud and annoying his brother for at least half the drive home.
Gotta love that brotherly love!!
ABOUT BRYCE'S GOAT ARMY
We started with Bryce's two does in July of 2023 - Sparrow and Adélie, named after the little penguin species (because Bryce absolutely adored penguins too).
These two have brought many smiles in times of deep grief and sorrow. We even call them our emotional support goats!
We added a beautiful bred doe, CASTLE ROCK ALICE IN WONDRLAND, in the Fall of 2023 and a buck, CASTLE ROCK ALASKAN HARE x CASTLE ROCK KALLISTO, and named him Rockhopper (another penguin species).
Knowing that we will have baby goats arriving each spring in the coming years will help us get through some of the most difficult months.
Our hope is that the families our goat kids go to will find as much joy from this cute little species as Bryce did and as we now do.
